Wedding AV at Villa Carlotta
AV, sound and lighting for weddings at Villa Carlotta, Tremezzo. Botanical gardens and a historic museum-villa — heritage-respectful production, ceremony to last dance.

A botanical garden and a museum-villa: heritage first
Villa Carlotta at Tremezzo is a protected museum-villa set in famous botanical gardens overlooking the lake toward Bellagio. Weddings here move between terraced gardens, the historic villa and open garden stages — and every setup choice has to respect a heritage site full of living collections.
What that means for the technical plan:
- Non-invasive rigging — nothing fixed to architecture or plantings; freestanding, weighted, cable-managed and trace-free
- Compact, modular gear carried along garden paths rather than driven in
- Levels mapped to the terraces so sound reaches each garden level evenly without dominating the setting
Ceremony and dinner across the terraced gardens
Garden ceremonies are exposed to lake air, so we use supercardioid wireless microphones for the celebrant and couple, with distributed speakers along the terraces — every guest hears the vows clearly (70–78 dB SPL) without a loud single source.
For dinner across the garden levels we zone the audio so conversation stays comfortable everywhere (75–82 dB SPL at the tables) and toasts cut through on their own channel, with levels ridden live as the light fades over the lake.
Party sound and light that respect the gardens
For the celebration we tune a Pioneer CDJ-3000 booth with a Funktion-One system to the actual garden space — kept tight so the energy stays on the dancefloor and the rest of the protected gardens stay calm.
Lighting is warm and architectural during dinner, with immersive dancefloor effects for the party — designed to enhance the botanical setting, never to club it. One technician runs audio and light from a single desk all evening.
Terraced botanical gardens and a museum-villa: acoustics among living collections
Villa Carlotta is a working museum set in famous terraced botanical gardens that climb the hillside above the lake toward Bellagio — and that geometry defines the acoustic plan. A wedding here is spread vertically across garden levels rather than gathered on one flat lawn, so coverage has to follow the terraces.
What that means in practice:
- The terraced gardens step up the slope with dense plantings, hedges and tree canopy that absorb and scatter sound — useful for keeping the party contained, but it also means one source can't reach every level. We place compact distributed speakers per terrace so the vows and dinner sound stay even from the lowest level to the highest.
- The historic museum-villa interiors are reverberant and full of protected collections, so indoor use is restrained and carefully placed — control over power, always.
- The open garden stages face the lake with full air exposure, the condition that demands supercardioid wireless for the ceremony.
Because it's a protected heritage site with living collections, nothing is fixed to architecture or plantings: the rig is freestanding, weighted, cable-managed and trace-free, and the gear is compact and modular so it can be carried along the garden paths rather than driven in. Levels are mapped to the terraces so the sound reaches each level evenly without dominating the gardens. More on the method in our Lake Como wedding AV guide.
What does a typical 150-guest wedding AV setup look like at Villa Carlotta?
Carlotta's terraced layout and heritage rules keep the production refined and contained, scaling carefully with guest count:
- 100 guests — Pioneer CDJ-3000 / DJM-A9 booth with a compact Funktion-One point-source system tuned to the garden terrace hosting the dancefloor. Ceremony on 2 supercardioid wireless mics (celebrant + couple), distributed speakers per terrace at 70–78 dB SPL; dinner zoned across the garden levels at 75–82 dB SPL with toasts on their own channel.
- 150 guests — the same Pioneer booth with a larger Funktion-One point-source array plus one dedicated sub, and added distributed fill so the upper and lower terraces stay matched. A second wireless channel for speeches. The dancefloor zone is kept deliberately tight at 95–100 dB SPL so energy stays on the floor and the rest of the protected gardens stay calm.
- 200 guests — more distributed zoning across the terraces and a second sub rather than a big line array, keeping the footprint heritage-respectful; warm architectural lighting for dinner and contained immersive dancefloor effects designed to enhance the botanical setting, never to club it.
