Production worthy of a grand lakefront landmark

Villa d'Este at Cernobbio is a benchmark of Lake Como luxury — a 16th-century estate, formal gardens, the famous floating pool and frescoed interiors. A wedding here is held to the highest standard, and the technical side has to disappear into the elegance rather than intrude on it.

Our approach at Villa d'Este:

  • Discreet rigging — equipment placed and cabled so it reads as part of the setting, never as production clutter
  • Refined levels — sound that fills the gardens and the ballroom without ever feeling "PA system"
  • One technician, all day — from ceremony to last dance, so the staff and planner never touch a fader

The result the couple feels: everything simply works, beautifully, all night.

Ceremony in the gardens, dinner in the frescoed halls

Ceremonies at Villa d'Este often take place in the formal gardens or by the water. We use cardioid and supercardioid wireless microphones for the celebrant and couple, with distributed speakers so every guest hears the vows over the lake air — 70–78 dB SPL across the seating area.

For dinner in the historic frescoed rooms, the priority is control: those reverberant interiors reward careful speaker placement and restrained levels (75–82 dB SPL at the tables) far more than power. Speeches run on their own channel so toasts land cleanly.

The party: dancefloor sound and light, tuned to the room

For the celebration we bring the international-circuit rig and tune it to the actual space — ballroom and lakefront marquee behave very differently:

  • DJ — Pioneer CDJ-3000 / DJM-A9 booth, the world standard your DJ already knows
  • Sound — Funktion-One point source for refined indoor rooms, L-Acoustics line array for larger outdoor stages, with defined subs
  • Light & LED — warm architectural washes during dinner, immersive 360° lighting and optional high-resolution LED for the dancefloor, never overpowering the historic setting

Target on the floor is 95–100 dB SPL — enough to feel, never enough to empty the garden.

Frescoed halls, formal gardens and the floating pool: acoustics at Villa d'Este

Villa d'Este's spaces are as demanding acoustically as they are beautiful. The 16th-century interiors — frescoed ceilings, marble, mirrored salons — are highly reverberant, so the priority indoors is always control rather than power: restrained levels, careful speaker angling away from hard surfaces, and speech on a dedicated channel so a toast doesn't dissolve into echo under a painted ceiling.

Outdoors the estate offers two distinct settings:

  • The formal terraced gardens rise behind the villa with hedges and statuary that break up sound and give some natural diffusion — we distribute compact speakers along the levels so coverage stays even without a dominant source.
  • The lakefront and the famous floating pool are fully open to air off the water, with no reflective help and constant breeze — exactly the condition that demands supercardioid wireless for the vows and distributed fill so no guest is left straining.

The brief at a landmark of this stature is that the production must disappear into the elegance: freestanding, discreetly cabled, nothing competing with the architecture, levels refined so the sound fills the room or garden without ever reading as 'PA system'. What does a typical 150-guest wedding AV setup look like at Villa d'Este?

Villa d'Este routinely hosts grand weddings, so the rig is built to scale while staying utterly discreet:

  • 100 guests — Pioneer CDJ-3000 / DJM-A9 booth with Funktion-One point-source for a refined indoor ballroom party. Ceremony on 2 cardioid/supercardioid wireless mics with distributed speakers at 70–78 dB SPL in the gardens or by the pool; dinner in the frescoed halls held to a controlled 75–82 dB SPL with speeches on their own channel.
  • 150 guests — the same Pioneer booth, with Funktion-One for an indoor ballroom or a step up to L-Acoustics line array if the party moves to a lakefront marquee, plus defined subs. A second speech channel for toasts and distributed dinner zoning across garden and hall so every table hears the same balance.
  • 200 guests — a larger line-array party in a marquee or on the lakefront terrace, multiple subs, optional high-resolution LED and immersive 360° lighting, with warm architectural washes keeping the historic setting elegant through dinner. Dancefloor stays at 95–100 dB SPL, distributed so the back hears what the front does.

Frequently asked questions

Can you keep the production discreet at a venue like Villa d'Este?
Yes — that is the point. Equipment is placed and cabled to blend into the setting, levels are refined rather than loud, and one technician runs everything so the staff and planner never touch the system.
Do you handle both the garden ceremony and the indoor dinner?
Yes. We cover ceremony to last dance as one setup — wind-rejecting wireless mics outdoors, controlled levels in the frescoed halls, and a tuned dancefloor rig for the party.
Is the team English-speaking and quick to reply?
Yes. We work in English with planners and couples and send proposals you can forward to the couple the same day.
